Global Policy on “Respect for Human Rights” and “Employment and Labor”

This Policy provides specific guidelines on matters such as respect for human rights and employment and labor in accordance with the following international standards.

  • Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work (International Labor Organization)
  • Global Compact (United Nations)
  • Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (United Nations)

Introduction

We understand that the human rights set forth in the International Declaration of Human Rights and the Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work of the International Labor Organization are the minimum internationally recognized human rights, and we are committed to respecting these human rights. Furthermore, in support of the United Nations' Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and upholding the purpose of the United Nations Global Compact, we will fulfill our corporate social responsibilities through respect for human rights, maintenance of appropriate working environments, and other means. We expect all of our business partners to understand and support the principles in this policy.

Respect for Human Rights

Respect for individual dignity and rights

  1. 1We respect everyone's dignity and rights. We do not make any discrimination for any reason, including race, color of skin, gender, age, nationality or country of origin, ethnic or social origin, caste, ethnic origin, family status, health status such as disability, presence or absence of infection/onset of HIV/AIDS, presence or absence of spouse, pregnancy, language, sexual orientation, gender identity, property, religion, economic background, labor union membership, or political opinion.
  2. 2We will not use any form of sexual harassment, power harassment, or any other language or behavior that makes the other person feel uncomfortable, or acts that deny the personality or damage personal dignity.

Understanding and Enlightenment of Human Rights

We will work to raise human rights awareness within the organization and ensure that each and every employee has a correct understanding of human rights and various issues related to human rights. In addition, we will incorporate this Policy into all of our business activities and provide officers and members with the education and capability development necessary to put this Policy into practice.

Protection of Privacy

We protect the privacy of individuals. When handling personal information, we will prevent loss or leakage of information by complying with related laws and regulations and responding appropriately.

Avoidance of involvement

We understand that the human rights of various internal and external stakeholders can be affected, potentially or actually, in our entire business activities from procurement of raw materials, manufacturing, sales, distribution, disposal, etc. We will also ask all stakeholders involved in our business to respect human rights, not to violate their rights or to unfairly discriminate, and will strive not to be involved in any violation of human rights, even if it is indirectly. In the event that any problem is discovered, we will promptly and appropriately correct and relieve the problem based on our basic principle of respect for human rights.

Prevention of Human Rights Violations

We will work to prevent human rights infringements in our business activities, based on the concept of human rights due diligence, a process for recognizing, preventing, and dealing with negative influences on human rights.

Engagement with Stakeholders

We consider it important to understand its negative impact on human rights from the perspectives of relevant stakeholders, in particular those who will be affected. We will engage in ongoing dialogue with stakeholders to address potential and actual negative impacts on human rights related to our business activities.

Special Situation Response

When faced with specific situations or environments that carry a high risk of human rights violations, such as conflicts, natural disasters, or endemic corruption, we will take utmost care to prevent such violations based on our basic philosophy of respect for human rights.

Actions to be taken when a problem occurs

In order to deal with possible human rights violations, we will establish a mechanism by which the persons concerned can consult and report, and will work to resolve problems as early as possible by operating the mechanism in a fair, fair, and transparent manner.

Employment/labor

Compliance with Laws and Regulations

We will establish rules of employment and other various rules based on the labor-related laws and regulations in each country and region and comply with them. Where local or regional legal requirements differ from internationally recognized human rights standards, we will pursue ways to respect international human rights principles while remaining compliant with the law.

Prohibition of forced labor and child labor

We will not perform forced labor and will not allow children who do not reach the working age specified in local laws and regulations to work. We will also request our business partners, etc. to do the same.

Good labor-management relations

We respect the rights of employees, including freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining, as well as other civil and political rights. We will build favorable labor-management relations through dialogue and create a working culture and environment that values communication and teamwork.

Initiatives to utilize human resources and promote diversity

We will create an organization where diverse talent can work actively. We will work to develop and utilize human resources from a medium- to long-term perspective by equally assigning opportunities for recruitment, placement, promotion, and skill development. We strive to ensure that all employees are aware of their role and enhance their capabilities. In addition, we strive to respect everyone's diverse working styles and values. In addition, by leveraging the capabilities of each individual and cooperating with each other to improve productivity, we aim to be able to choose and realize diverse lifestyles at home and in community life.

We will comply with all applicable local laws and regulations regarding working hours. We will appropriately manage employee working hours, holidays, and leaves so that each and every employee can focus on work and life and work productively with time constraints.

Wages

We will comply with applicable wage laws and regulations in each country and region. Wages to be paid to employees are fairly determined in light of wage levels in the labor markets of each country and region, with the aim of not being lower than the legally required minimum wage and exceeding the living wage.

Safety assurance

We will place the highest priority on safety and work to prevent workplace accidents. We conduct safety management in accordance with laws and regulations of each country and region, and create a safe workplace environment by having each and every one of us independently and proactively engage in safety management.

We will work to maintain and promote physical and mental health. It is our employees who work with enthusiasm that support the company's growth, and we believe that maintaining and promoting the health of each individual is essential. We will work to establish and maintain a healthy working environment so that each employee can actively participate in his or her own health management and concentrate on working actively.

Product safety/quality

So that customers can use our products with safety and peace of mind, we are implementing rigorous quality control to ensure product safety and continuous quality improvement.

Contribution to the community

We understand that our business activities can have an impact on land rights, water access, community health, native people's rights and more. We will contribute broadly to society through our business activities, deepen our understanding of the cultures and customs of each country and region, act as a good corporate citizen, and meet the requirements and expectations of local communities.

Communication and Disclosure

Business Partner

We will also share our views on human rights with our business partners. We are committed to working with our suppliers and other relevant stakeholders to promote respect for human rights throughout our business activities.

Reporting and Communication

We will monitor the operation of our policies, including the implementation of human rights due diligence, and periodically report and disclose the progress of our efforts related to human rights commitments.
